Today is the commemoration of the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Praying for the souls in purgatory is so important and St. Gertrude’s prayer is such a beautiful prayer that is especially effective.
Saint Gertrude had visions of Our Lord and in one of those apparitions, He told her that when the following prayer is said, 1,000 souls will be released from Purgatory each time the prayer is said! That’s pretty incredible! We should say this prayer as often as possible, and not just in November!
Now, for me, there are two versions of the prayer. The original one that I learned only includes the souls in purgatory, and the other version includes all sinners. I am going to share them both here and you can decide which prayer you want to pray:
Version One:
“Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus Christ in union with all the Masses said throughout the world today for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Amen.”
Version Two:
“Eternal Father, I of offer Thee the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus Christ in union with all the Masses said throughout the world today for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”
