31 Days of Prayer – Saint Bruno

Saint Bruno, whose optional memorial we celebrate today, is the founder of the Carthusian monks. The Carthusians is the one of (if not the most) strictest religious order in the Catholic Church.

The Carthusians spend their days in silence, penance and prayer. We may not be able to live our lives quite the same way as they do; however, we can strive to imitate some aspects of their spirituality. For example, we can make an effort to shut down some of the noise in our lives so that we can have some time of silence for the Lord. (Do we really need the TV or radio on all the time?) We can all make time for more prayer and if you don’t believe me, get a copy of my cheat sheet on how to make time for prayer. We can also do penance in small ways such not eating that second piece of cake, etc!

Today, let us ask Saint Bruno to intercede for us and to help us have a deep desire to live for God alone:

O God, who called Saint Bruno to serve you in solitude, grant, through his intercession, that amid the changes of this world we may constantly look to you alone. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”

31 Days of Prayer – Healing & Protection

Today I want to share a prayer that has touched me in deep ways. It is a healing and protection prayer that  my husband gave me before we were married. When Michael was in college (Franciscan University of Steubenville), he received this prayer from a priest, Fr. Hilz. This priest gave out this prayer to everyone who went to him for confession.

I first shared this prayer a few years ago and it quickly became one of the most popular posts on this blog. From the responses I have received, in the comments and privately, this prayer has been a blessing to many people. Therefore, I have decided to link to this prayer today.

There are so many people who are in need of healing and it is good to ask God’s blessing and protection on us and all that is ours. And, I pray that this prayer is a blessing to you, too. at the end of the prayer is a link to print out the prayer (no opt-in required). I hope you will print out the prayer and pray it regularly.

Healing and Protection Prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for all You have given me and ask forgiveness for my sins. Please cover me with the protective Precious Blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ (Exodus 12:7), and increase your Holy Spirit in me with His gifts of Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Discernment (1 Corinthians 12:4-11), Guidance (John 16:13) and Hunger for Prayer to help me know Your will and surrender to it more completely. (Titus 2:14)

Holy Spirit, please remove more blocks in me to receiving and sharing Your love and grace;“…Continue Praying…

31 Days of Prayer – Guardian Angel

If yesterday hadn’t been a Sunday, it would have been the feast of the guardian angels. Sunday always takes precedence over any other memorials, feast days, and even most solemnities. However, I think it is important to remember our guardian angels.

Most of us who are cradle Catholics are taught about angels at a young age. We picture angels who are sweet cherubs watching over us as we sleep. We are taught the prayer to our Guardian Angel. But, as we get older, devotion to our guardian angels fall by the wayside.

I would love to change that. I think we could all do well to remember our guardian angels (and all the angels). They are great protectors and guides that God has given us to help us on the way to salvation. And let’s be real. Some angels may be sweet and cherub-like but angels are spirits  and powerful warriors and defenders of the faith!

Additionally, whether we recognize them or not, our guardian angels are by our side always, not just while we are kids. Your angel is with you at this very moment.

So, today, let us pray the prayer to our guardian angel with devotion and fervor. Let us remember to talk to our angels and ask for their assistance. (It may sound crazy, but I had a personal experience with an angel that I share here.)

“Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here. Ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.”
