31 Days of Prayer: Abandonment to God’s Providence

I found the following prayer in the book, Handbook of Prayer, and I love it! If you are short on time, this would be a great prayer to substitute for your regular morning prayers (or a great addition to it):

My Lord and my God: Into your hands  abandon the past and the present and the future, what is small and what is great, what amounts to a little and what amounts to a lot, things temporal and things eternal. Amen.”

St. Josemaria Escriva

It is certainly a short and powerful prayer. It is a little scary, too. I don’t know about you but I have a tendency to want to hold on to things and control things. This prayer is a prayer of letting go and that isn’t always easy! So, let’s pray that we have to courage to pray this prayer with conviction and truth. 🙂

31 Days Writing Challenge

The Heroic Minute Challenge

Debbie over at Saints 365 is co-hosting a 14 day “Heroic Minute” challenge and I am so excited! I have been falling out of the getting up early habit and have noticed the effects. I have been feeling rushed, stressed, and not getting in my prayer time every day as I should.

What is the heroic minute?

The heroic minute is the very first minute of the day, as soon as the alarm goes off. St. Josemaria Escriva believed that the first moment of the day is the most important moment of the day where we can set our heart and mind on God and overcome our “flesh.”

About the Challenge

The challenge starts this Monday, April 4. All you have to do (!) is set the alarm for a reasonable time and when it goes off, get up, utter a prayer, and then begin your day. For more details, go to here on the Saints 365 website.

I hope you will join us. Remember, it doesn’t mean getting up at 4 am. Set a time that is doable and stick with it the best you can. Think of your “why” and don’t forget, consistency is the name of the game, not perfection!

Book Review: Holiness for Everyone

I have a great devotion to St. Josemaria, so I am thrilled to review Holiness for Everyone for the Catholic Company. And I’m happy to report that this book didn’t disappoint.

One of the reasons I am drawn to St. Josemaria is because he is very practical and offers down-to-earth, practical advice on living out our Christian Vocation in the world. And, Holiness for Everyone takes St. Josemaria’s counsel and lays it out in an easy format that helps the reader to actually put St. Josemaria’s words into action.

The book has two parts. The first, called “Laying the Foundations” gives the reader an introduction into the life and spirituality of St. Josemaria. The second, called “Building a Saintly Life” outlines just that; it offers practical steps we can take to bring Christ into our everyday life.

One of the things I liked about this book is that at the end of each chapter the author gives the reader a section called “Read, Meditate, Pray, Contemplate.” In this section the reader is given various works from St. Josemaria to read (free online) and then points to meditate about, pray about and contemplate.

Although I read this book straight through so that I could do this review, Holiness for Everyone is not meant to be read like a  novel. It is meant to be read slowly, digesting each point carefully.

If you are looking for practical ways to bring your relationship to Christ to another level, then I recommend this book.

I give it four (4) stars.
