31 Days of Prayer – Saint Bruno

Saint Bruno, whose optional memorial we celebrate today, is the founder of the Carthusian monks. The Carthusians is the one of (if not the most) strictest religious order in the Catholic Church.

The Carthusians spend their days in silence, penance and prayer. We may not be able to live our lives quite the same way as they do; however, we can strive to imitate some aspects of their spirituality. For example, we can make an effort to shut down some of the noise in our lives so that we can have some time of silence for the Lord. (Do we really need the TV or radio on all the time?) We can all make time for more prayer and if you don’t believe me, get a copy of my cheat sheet on how to make time for prayer. We can also do penance in small ways such not eating that second piece of cake, etc!

Today, let us ask Saint Bruno to intercede for us and to help us have a deep desire to live for God alone:

O God, who called Saint Bruno to serve you in solitude, grant, through his intercession, that amid the changes of this world we may constantly look to you alone. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”
