March for Life 2012 and Other Thoughts

Today, as you know, is the 39th March for Life. My prayers and thoughts are with all those who will be in Washington, DC at the rallys, the march and other pro-life events. I wish I could be there, but I am definitely there is spirit.

I found out yesterday about a pro-life link up through the Catholic Bloggers Network. It was a link-up called “Ask them: What do They Mean by Choice blog day” hosted by Jill Stanek. There were a lot of fantastic blog posts that linked up. I’m sorry I missed it, but I will make sure I participate next year!

When I think of the “pro-choice” meaning of choice I think of the following scripture verses:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” —New American Standard Version

“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” —New American Standard Version

These verses are AMAZING. Think about it. GOD formed us in the womb and knew us (loved us!) before we were born. He formed us, he CREATED us in HIS IMAGE. (God formed you in His image. He formed you in the womb and loved you before time began.)

No matter what the circumstances of our birth. No matter who our parents are. No matter what we have to face in life. GOD CHOSE US. His grace will be with us.

The “pro-choice” movement would have us believe that life is a commodity. They would have us believe that the life growing inside the womb is “tissue” or whatever. No matter what we know scientifically about how a baby’s heartbeat begins at 21 days*, or brain function begins at 40 days* or that a baby can live outside the womb as early as 20 weeks.*

No, they would have us believe that life does not begin at conception. They would have us believe that abortion is a viable “choice”. That the killing of innocent babies is “normal.” No.

That’s not what God says. God says life is precious. Life is a gift. God says His “grace is sufficient” for ALL life. No matter how difficult the circumstances are. God’s grace is there for all women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Let us pray for all those marching for life today. Let us pray for the end of abortion. For the conversion of all those in the abortion industry. For all those who are suffering the regret of having an abortion or abortions. Let us pray for the conversion of all those who call themselves “pro-choice”. May they see that the “choice” of killing innocent babies is no choice at all.

  3. The words freedom of choice are thrown around a lot these days.I have a strong knee-jerk reaction against them, because I feel like they’re so intimately connected with the abortion issue. But my husband thinks I overreact. I like this verse: “I set before you a choice between life or death, a blessing or a curse. Choose life, therefore, that you might live.” Deuteronomy.

I like that verse, too. It’s true that that term is used a lot, and unfortunately, most people choose not to understand the implications of what those mean (in case of the abortion’s issue).
