I have to start out by saying that I’m not a big fan of the Doctor Oz television show. There’s something a little too “pop-medicine” about it that I don’t like. (Plus most of the “games” he plays with the audience to get his point across are kinda corny!)
However, a couple of weeks ago there was an episode that caught my mother-in-law’s eye so she taped it. During the course of the show there was a segment dealing with germs and how to properly clean your surfaces to keep germs at bay. He offered this tip for cleaning and disinfecting your bathtub:
Fill your tub with water and 1 cup vinegar. Let soak overnight. In the morning drain the tub.
That’s it. The vinegar is more abrasive than other cleaners to get rid of the germs and leaves the tub with a nice shine.
Guess what? It works!
And it’s easy. No scrubbing or hurting your knees to get the tub clean. That so works for me!
Vinegar is fabulous. I use it in water to clean the tub surround and other bathroom surfaces.

I agree! I use vinegar to clean a lot of stuff, too.
I definitely need to try this! Vinegar is good for lots of things.
Sure is!
Wow! Is it really that easy?????
Does it take care of soap scum, I assume?
It’s been working for me – including the scum.
I’ve always wipe down the tub after we shower/bath; and, have been using the vinegar/water solution once or twice a week since learning about this.
I’ll have to try this. One not so easy thing I’ve done is soak paper towels in vinegar and paper the tub with them, but your way sounds much easier, if it works.

That’s an interesting idea. After you drain the tub in the morning from the vinegar, you can always wipe dry with a paper towel if you wanted. I don’t usually bother, though. 🙂
Hmmm, def going to try this out as the bathtub is one chore I dread!! Thanks for the tip
Me, too. Cleaning any part of the bathroom is my least favorite, though… 🙂
Oh I can’t wait to try this!!

Great!
I love vinegar! I think “abrasive” can’t be the right word, though–that means “scratchy” which vinegar isn’t. I’ll have to try this soaking method….

So true, that. Vinegar is definitely not scratchy, but very, effective!
I’ve been reading up on the things vinegar can do, and it is amazing all the uses for it. I hadn’t heard this about cleaning the tub, so I’ll have to try this idea sometime. Thanks for teaching me something new today!
