World Day of Prayer

“How many loaves have you?” Deuteronomy 8:7-10

Do you know about the Women’s World Day of Prayer? Until yesterday, I hadn’t. The WDP was started by a woman named Mary Ellen James in 1887 in response to the problems she saw new immigrants and other facing  in her day.

The World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical event, and its purpose to encourage woman to pray for each other and encourage one another. In particular, women are encouraged to pray for women in other countries and cultures. The World Day of Prayer is on the first Friday of March each year and is focused on a different country; this year being dedicated to praying for the people of Chili. (You can learn more about the World Day of Prayer here and here.)

So let us today pray for all join in for praying for all women, especially for the women of Chili!
