My Miracle Baby is 12!

Please indulge me a bit as I get a little emotional: Tomorrow is Andrew’s 12th birthday! My heart is full as I think about life with him all these years. I keep telling him to stop growing up but he just won’t listen. :/

Andrew Certificate

This is Andrew when he was 5 years old.

Did I ever tell you the story about his birth? I was looking through some old posts but didn’t see anything, which is strange because I could have sworn I’ve written about it here.

You see, the doctors said Andrew wasn’t going to make it so “technically” Andrew shouldn’t be alive. Sometime (probably within 24 hours) before his birth, Andrew swallowed meconium (“baby waste”). Then, after laboring for 24 hours, I gave in and decided to get an epidural (I wanted to go natural). When I got it, Andrew’s heart plummeted and I had to have an emergency c-section.

As soon as he was out, he was whisked away to be worked on. I didn’t have my glasses on so I couldn’t see him; all I saw as a big blob. He was on 100% oxygen and the doctors said it didn’t look good. BUT, God had a plan. Michael got everyone he could think to pray. His best friend from college, who was also the best man at our wedding, had the prayer request added to the prayers of the faithful during Mass at Franciscan University.

So, obviously, he made it! In fact, he was able to come home from the hospital with me! Also, there were no residual effects from his trauma at all. He is smart, sometimes a smart alec!, funny, caring, and growing into a lovely young pre-teen. ๐Ÿ™‚ I look at him now and I am amazed at God’s goodness.

Andrew when he started 6th grade this year.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t in God’s plan that we have another child and that sometimes makes me sad. I wish Andrew had a brother or sister to play with and grow up with; however, I am so grateful for Andrew. I can not image him not in my life – even on those days when I want to pull my hair out because he is having one of his tantrums! He is such a blessing and I can’t wait continue on his journey with him as he grows up to be a man. ๐Ÿ™‚

Face Your Fears!

On Friday we went to Air Trampoline Sports to celebrate my niece’s 12th birthday. One of the activities is a set of walking sticks that get higher and higher. All of the kids were climbing them and so Andrew decided he wanted to give it a try – even though he has a fear of heights.

I am not sure how he developed that fear, but he has mentioned it to me a few times. Therefore, the fact that he gave it a try was awesome, BUT then he got to this point:

I was so amazed! I thought he would stop there, but no, he went one more:

20150710_204635Then, he actually made it to the top!

20150710_204657

This was HUGE for Andrew! I can’t tell you how proud I am of him for going all the way to the top. More than that, I can’t tel you how proud he was of himself. But what you need to know about these pictures is that it is the SECOND time he made it to the top! The first time he made it to the top I was in the bathroom (of all places) and missed getting the pictures. When I talked to Andrew about his “rise to the top” in part told me,

“I am afraid of heights and when I was on the walking stick (3rd from the top) I was going to stop, but Uncle Dennis kept telling me I could do it and I kept going. Then after I did it once, I had the confidence to do it again.”

Wow. He took an act of faith by facing his fear, and not letting it stop him, he wound up having fun, and he gained a newfound confidence in himself.

This is actually a good lesson and reminder for me. I have an anxiety disorder and sometimes it prevents from doing (or prevents me from wanting to do) things I want/need to do. But, I also know from experience that when I trust in the Lord, take the leap and do whatever it is fear is trying to stop, I do find a new confidence, too.

Maybe this is a lesson for you, too? Is there something that you fear or is there something that is holding you back from living the life you want? Then my prayer for you is that God will strengthen you and help you to step out in faith and face that fear, and that you will be filled with a new level of confidence in yourself.

God bless!

7 Quick Takes: Pinterest Edition

My son’s birthday isn’t until the end of March, so it’s technically a little early to be thinking about his birthday party. However, he is very excited to be turning 7 this year and has been talking about since CHRISTMAS! He is dead-set on wanting a Transformer’s themed birthday party and wants his guests to dress up as their favorite Transformer’s character. (His is Bumblebee.)

I have no clue on how to pull off a Transformer’s themed party, so I headed over to one of my favorite places: Pinterest. They didn’t have much but I did find some interesting ideas. Many of them were for a 5 year-old, but I think I can make them work for Andrew.

These party favors are cute, if not a little too young for Andrew, again via Mom’s Happy Place. I think I can put something together similar but, we’ll see. I’m not the most creative person. Hence the need to go to Pinterest for ideas!

— 4 —

I’ll probably have to find some paper products similar to the ones posted by Cheryl Lucas.

— 5 —

Not on Pinterest, but on Pizzazzerie.com, I saw some good ideas for the food…

— 6 —

The room posted here via Holly Anfang, can’t be done at my house, but it does give some decorating ideas.

One think lacking on Pinterest is Transformer games and/or crafts to do with the children. I did find these ideas on ehow-com. And I did find this site with some ideas that I should be able to adapt to Andrew’s age group.

If you have boys and any suggestions on pulling off a Transformer birthday party (or don’t have boys but still have ideas!) please share. I could use all the help I can get!

Surf Dog!

This is my friend Terry’s dog. I was at Terry’s for a birthday party for her son a few weeks ago, and her dog (whose name escapes me at the moment!) wanted to show off her talents! LOL!

Happy Birthday to my Sweet Boy!

Andrew in Park

As of 5:20 am this morning, my crazy, antsy, head-strong, fantastically amazing little boy is officially SIX years old! Like most moms, I remember his birth like it was yesterday – especially since it ended up with an emergency c-section and we almost lost him. Somehow during or right before labor my little one swallowed meconium, blocking his airways and causing other complications. He was on 100 % oxygen but he was weaned from it rather quickly, thanks to the prayers of many people!

Now, six years later he is growing in endless, wonderful ways – free from any complications of his birth. He is smart and fun, and such a joy. I can’t even imagine how I everย  lived my life without him. ๐Ÿ™‚

Please say a little prayer for my dear little boy that he may grow up to be a holy and happy person. That he will always have a heart for the Lord and know God’s will for his life. Thank you!

Blessing of a Child

Heavenly Father, lover of all,
we praise you for giving us Jesus as our Saviour:
He blessed the children who came to Him,
and welcomes those who come to Him now.

Look with love upon Andrew.
and protect him with Your love.
May he grow in wisdom and age and strength
in Your presence and in the sight of all.

We ask this blessing, Father,
through Your beloved Son, Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Fearless Friday: Prayer for our Families

Photobucket

Today is my brother’s 36th (I think!) birthday. He’s a great guy who has had to deal with lots of “stuff” over the years. He struggles a lot and I’m not really sure where he stands in regards to his faith. Still, I love him dearly and so grateful to have him as my brother. Please, if you can, do say a little prayer for him.

I am also praying for all of our families. Those who are far from the Lord, those who are close to the Lord and those who are somewhere in between. I am praying for all our family members who are struggling with difficulties, those who are sick and for those who are rejoicing. In short, I am praying for all the special intentions of our families!

Prayer for a Family

O God of goodness and mercy, to Thy fatherly guidance we commend our family, our household and all our belongings.
We commit all to Thy love and keeping; do Thou fill this house with Thy blessings even as Thou didst fill the holy House of Nazareth with Thy presence. Keep far from us, above all else, the blemish of sin, and do Thou alone reign in our midst by Thy law,
by Thy most holy love and by the exercise of every Christian virtue. Let each one of us obey Thee, love Thee and set himself to follow in his own life Thine example, that of Mary, Thy Mother and our Mother most loving, and that of Thy blameless guardian, Saint Joseph.

Protect us and our house from all evils and misfortunes, but grant that we may be ever resigned to Thy divine will even in the sorrows which it shall please Thee to send us. Finally give unto all of us the grace to live in perfect harmony and in the fullness of love toward our neighbor. Grant that every one of us may deserve by a holy life the comfort of Thy holy Sacraments at the hour of death.
O Jesus, bless us and protect us.

O Mary, Mother of grace and of mercy, defend us against the wicked spirit, reconcile us with Thy Son, commit us to His keeping,
that so we may be made worthy of His promises.

Saint Joseph, foster-father of our Savior, guardian of His holy Mother, head of the Holy Family, intercede for us, bless us and defend our home at all times.

Saint Michael, defend us against all the evil cunning of hell.

Saint Gabriel, make us to understand the holy will of God.

Saint Raphael, preserve us from all sickness and from every danger to our lives.

Our holy Guardian Angels, keep our feet safely on the path of salvation both day and night.

Our holy Patrons, pray for us before the throne of God. Yea, bless this house,

O God the Father, who hast created us;

O God the Son, who hast suffered for us upon the holy Cross,

and Thou, O Holy Spirit, who hast sanctified us in holy Baptism.

May the one God in three Divine Persons preserve our bodies, purify our minds, direct our hearts and bring us all to everlasting life.

Glory be to the Father, glory be to the Son, glory be to the Holy Ghost!

Amen.
