Sunday Snippets: A Catholic Carnival (June 1, 2014)

Sunday Snippets

Another week for Sunday Snippets. My two posts for this week include a book review for my friend Catherine Francis’ new book, Christian America: Shattered Dreams in a Veiled Society and a “blurb” about the Ascension.

Question of the Week:

May is the month of Mary.  Are there an Marian devotions other than the rosary which you use?

Every Saturday in May, and sometimes other Saturdays of the year, I pray the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Also, one of my prayer books, Handbook of Prayers, contains a series 31 days of short prayers/meditations for the month of May that use.

  1. Thanks for sharing your Marian devotions. I do not pray any. Rote prayer is too dry for me, at least these days. It could change! But I am reading a great book called – Walking with Mary, by Edward Sri. Thought you might like it.

That’s wonderful, Colleen. I think, at least from what I gather from the Saints, that we are called to go beyond rote prayer to contemplation. Personally, I vasillate. There are times when I need formal prayers to act like a bridge or to help me through a dry spell when sitting in mediatation just won’t come. 🙂
