Prayer to Keep the Presence of God

“You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever.” Psalm 16:11

Remaining in God’s presence during the day is a very important aspect of the spiritual life. I know for myself, I want – and need – to stay grounded in His presence; but alas, I fail short so many times.

PresenceofGod

Then I started praying this prayer that I found in the book Handbook of Prayer (aff link page 43). I’ve been praying this prayer first thing in the morning for a while now, and I am so pleased that my mind keeps going back to this prayer during the day! In hopes that this prayer will help you remain in God’s presence, I want to share this with you. ( The author is not listed, so I don’t know who the author is):

Prayer to Keep the Presence of God

“Lord God Almighty, You have brought us safely to the beginning of this day. Defend us today by Your mighty power, so that we may not fall into any sin, and that all our words may so proceed and all our thoughts and actions be so directed as to be always just in your sight. through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

amen amen amen…I needed this right now and thank God for giving me the strength..praising Him for the mighty Saints that make intercession on our behalf.

I am no longer using the linky Carol since you have to pay for it and I just can’t afford to do that. So when others leave comments on the blog, I have posted that they visit one another to lift each other up in prayer for the requests that are left at their blogs and also on my blog…

Thank you for your faithfulness and your intercession for my family and I .

Oh! Thanks for letting me know. I wouldn’t pay money for a linky either. 🙂

I’m so glad the prayer was what you needed. Maybe God put it in my heart to share this prayer just for YOU.

      Sending you hugs…

  2. I also struggle. One of my favorite prayers for helping me to focus – especially when I think less than charitable thoughts! – is “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” Sometimes when I’m driving I’ll just say it over and over.

  3. AMEN!

He is always with us and never takes His gaze from us. I think He delights when He sees us gazing back into His eyes.

  4. Hi Carol,

That prayer is from the hour of Prime in the Divine Office. Those of us who pray the DO from the 1962 liturgical books say it every day. It is one of my favorites. The post V II Liturgy of the Hours suppressed the hour of Prime and replaced it with the Office of Readings. A former pastor encouraged me to do both – Prime and the Office of Readings. Why not? It’s the sacred liturgy.

Thanks for cluing me in on the source, Barb. I try to pray the Divine Office each day – at least morning and evening prayer, but with the Post V II Divine Office.
