Fearless Friday: Praying for the Children

I’m not a big fan of Halloween. My husband (and tons others, of course) see it as harmless fun; but not me. So much of Halloween glorifies evil and anything that glorifies evil or darkness bothers me. The costumes are often immodest and honestly, the logic in me thinks the idea of begging for candy when I can just go out and buy it myself is dumb. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Of course, I have a 5 year old, who doesn’t understand my reasoning, so yes, he has a new transformers costume and I’ll probably take him out trick-or-treating for a little bit. Our apartment complex is hosting a Halloween egg hunt (I’ve never heard of that before!) and I’ll take him to that.

Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying that I will be praying today for all those who will be celebrating Halloween – young and old. I pray that everyone will be safe and maybe even maybe take a moment to remember what Halloween really is: All Hallow’s Eve. The eve of All Saints Day. ๐Ÿ™‚

(Come join us in prayer each Friday over at Free Spirit Haven.

  1. We have allowed our children to participate on these Halloween nights also (I have a hubby like yours, lol). when I am distributing the candies out each year, I have praise music playing in the background. It reminds me that we are the ‘light of the world’..and on this ‘dark night’..we are Believers are bringing some light to the darkness aren’t we?..((hugs)) Praying with you sweet sis.

I love that! I think I will make sure I have praise music playing in the background this year, too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Halloween is not my favorite, but I do let the kids participate. I agree some of the costumes are really immodest and vulgar. I have, at times, done saint costumes for halloween, but not every year.

I’d like to do a saints costume for Andrew but it’s hard to compete with Optumus Prime (spelling?)! Maybe next year. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. i’m not a fan of halloween either. and i hate it when all that’s showing on TV are creatures of the night movies. said a prayer for the children. i pray that Jesus’ light will shine upon them.

I agree. I can’t watch horror movies at all. Even knowing they are fake doesn’t stop the nightmares!

Thanks for praying with me. ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope I get to see Andrew all dressed up in his costume.

I could care less about Halloween now-but as a kid I used to love getting all that candy!!!!

  5. Not a big fan of Halloween, either, but have recently read an article by the Catholic Church that puts it in a more favorable light. Made me feel better. I will try and locate it and send it to you. I greet my trick or treaters with Happy All Saints or Happy All Hallow’s Eve! N

  6. I am one of those who see no harm in Halloween and costumes, etc. Kids really just want to have fun. I think what you are doing with your son sounds great. Of course, I agree with praying and I will pray for all as well!
