10 Words to Describe God

Call it the joy of Easter, call it spring fever, or just call me crazy 🙂 , but lately my heart has been full of the praises of the Lord, and I can’t resist sharing the many attributes of our great God!

1. Merciful. This past Sunday was Divine Mercy Sunday, and a great time to remember how merciful our Lord is, ready to reach down and lift us up when we fall, ready to fill our souls with His goodness.

2. Patient. God is patient, so, so patient. I always say, “Thank God, for God” because if I were God…well, the world would have been wiped out a long time ago! LOL! Okay, I’m kidding. 🙂

3. Loving. The Life of Jesus. The Suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus. Need I say more?

4. Forgiving. As Catholics, we have tangible proof of God’s forgiveness every time we go to confession and hear the words of the absolution. I always leave confession feeling refreshed of soul and ready to continue the “good fight of faith” no matter how nervous I might feel before going in! Here’s a guide on how to make a good confession if you need it.

5. Holy. Our great God is a holy God, worthy of all our praise and gratitude!

6. Worthy. God is all worthy. Worthy of our adoration and worship!

7. Faithful. We may not always be faithful to God (speaking for myself) but God is ALWAYS faithful to us. This is comforting to remember as we pray for our loved ones who are far from the faith.

8. Our Salvation. Jesus is our Lord, our redeemer. Through Him, through is life, death and resurrection we are “adopted children of the Father.” Through Jesus we have access to heaven for all eternity.  How awesome is that?!

9. Healing. No one goes through life unscathed. It’s impossible. But, God is there with healing balm to soothe our spirits and fill our emptiness of heart, if only we let Him.

10. Perfect. God is all-good, all-knowing, all-loving. He is perfect in all things. He knows all, and NEVER makes mistakes. We can never “know the mind of God” but we can trust that all that He allows is for our own good, our holiness and our salvation.

Come, praise the Lord with me and share your words that describe our awesome God! Just leave your attributes of God in the comments.

  1. A great list, Carol. I’ll add “eternal”, something I contemplate often. We are so blessed to have been created and to desire to know, love, and serve Him in this world and to be happy with Him in the next.
