It’s official! Yesterday was the graduation ceremony, and I am so grateful and happy to say that I have earned my bachelor’s degree in English – Summa Cum Laude!
A couple of weeks ago, during our homeschooling co-op, Andrew’s Squire and Scroll group talked about the importance of guarding our mouths and using only kind and constructive words. It was a great reminder, for us as adults too, that our words have impact. We can either hurt or build up the people around us by our words.
As a craft, they made a lion with the words “Guard Your Mouth” around the lion’s lips. Andrew didn’t get to finish it at the co-op and we finally got around to getting getting it finished. This is how it turned out:
At least for those of us in New Jersey. 🙂 We woke up to snow Saturday morning… Not tons, but enough. More than enough for me! I’m not a huge fan of snow. It’s wet, It’s messy. It’s a horror to drive in.
BUT, I have to admit, seeing Andrew’s excitement over the snow is fun. From the moment he got up he was singing, “It’s snowing, it’s snowing. We have snow!” And the snowball fight we had was fun. And watching him make snow angels. Of course, the best part was the cuddling together on the couch as he drank hot chocolate and I drank tea !
Here’s a bunch of pictures of our snowy backyard:

Still, give me the heat of summer anytime!

This is Andrew’s version of this idea. We are going to put the box in a prominent place. Each day everyone one in the family can write what they are thankful for on a piece of paper and put it in the box and then I’ll have Andrew read each one aloud on Thanksgiving Day.
(I know our box isn’t nearly as nice as the one I linked to, but our version of the box was Andrew’s idea and craftsmanship. He’s happy with it and that’s what matters! 🙂 )

and let Your perpetual light shine upon. May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.”
“Turning to supplication, they prayed that the sinful deed might be fully blotted out. The noble Judas exhorted the people to keep themselves free from sin, for they had seen with their own eyes what had happened because of the sin of those who had fallen.
He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection in mind;
for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been superfluous and foolish to pray for the dead.
But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought.
Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be absolved from their sin.” (2 Maccabees 12: 42-46)
We took Andrew to a fall/apple festival a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun! Unfortunately, most of the pictures I took didn’t come out except for these few:
Even with holding on he had a hard time sinking his teeth into the apple.
This cow won a bunch of ribbons and awards but I don’t remember why:
And this one is in training:

My son recently started taking karate lessons at the local YMCA and loving it! He has only taken two lessons so far, but he already considers himself an expert! LOL! He looks quite cute in his uniform though. 🙂

We took Andrew to an apple festival / car show a couple weeks back. While there, I saw this cool looking car. I have no clue what kind of car this is, so don’t ask. 😉 What caught my eye the most is that it looks like it has no tires!
