First Communion Joy

Andrew made his communion this past Saturday. I can’t tell you how excited he has been the last few weeks coming up to the day. It was like waiting for Christmas! After church he tells daddy and me, “Finally, finally, I can receive Jesus with the rest of the church!” If only we all had that same joy and anticipation when going to mass and receiving Jesus in the Eucharist!

During the mass, Andrew had the job of bringing up a candle during the presentation of the gifts. I couldn’t get a good shot, but I wish you could see a picture of his face. He was so concerned about not dropping the candle and setting the church on fire. He was so serious and you could see the determination and carefulness right on his face!

I had a lot of problems with my camera so I only got a few pictures. Thankfully my father-in-law and sister and mom were able to get some better pictures. I can’t wait to get them. At least I can show him off wearing his communion suit:

And some family pictures at the communion party. We had lunch at the Royal China Buffet and I have to say they did a marvelous job. The waiter and waitress were very attentive, the party room was lovely and the food was great. We got there right when they were opening, so the food was not only very fresh but piping hot, too!

  1. You don’t mean Grand China buffet? I remember my son also wanted Chinese after his first communion.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in St. Jerome’s. I remember it fondly. Congratulations to your son.

My daughter begins religious education this coming fall. I’m filling out the paperwork on this Mother’s Day.

No, actually the China Buffet in Middletown (Shoprite Plaza) is called the Royal China Buffet. It threw me off at first, too!

I really like St. Jerome’s. We are moving in a few weeks to the Metuchen diocese and although we’ve found a good church I am going to miss St. Jerome’s.

Good luck to your daughter as she starts rel ed in the fall. 🙂

  2. God bless Andrew. First Communicants are such an inspiration for us to remain as little children in their joy and awe.

  4. Oh, yes, China Buffet in Middletown – great place.

And Metuchen Diocese – great diocese! They have some great programs and most parishes are vibrant. I’m familiar mostly with Queenship of Mary in Plainsboro.

I hope you all get nicely settled.

Have you followed that story about Fr. Fugee and St. Mary’s in Colts Neck? I wrote a post on it this week. Just shocking.

I’m glad to hear that about the Metuchen Diocese. I’ve belonged to the Trenton Diocese my whole life so don’t know much about Metuchen. We went to mass at St. Lawrence last night in Laurence Harbor and really liked it, though.

I hadn’t heard about Fr Fugee doing ministry at St. Mary’s but just popped over to your blog and read the article. It is very shocking and sad that he would have the nerve to jump diocese and do active ministry without the bishop’s knowledge.

  5. Congratulations to Andrew! A blessed day. Love the pictures.
